Lumpy's Run to the Wall!
Rev. Buzz Sez!
I recently bought a tour pak for my bike. I was black so I took it to Maaco for a paint job, added some bling and we're good to go!

Today I made my routine jaunt to Bakersfield Harley Davidson to see the new 2009 TriGlide that arrived earlier this week. It's their first one and it was reserved for former Thorp's Harley Davidson owners, Pat and Tex Thorp. It's a nice looking trike with a 103 cubic inch motor. Tex had a few accessories added to her....she's looks great! Here's some pics of my bike, the Tattoo Expo and the new Trigide.
Friday night was windy and threatened rain which never came. Saturday was not as windy as Friday and Sunday was picture perfect.
We played cards, rode the Ranger and just relaxed. I got a little over zealous with the Ranger as you will see in the pictures! Here they are.
The weather was perfect and so was the ceremony. Aaron wrote a beautiful poem about his recently deceased brother, Kyle, who was to be in the wedding party. It was a very special moment.
Congrats to Laura on receiving her Masters Degree!!
Update on the previous post (09/06/2009): According to his insurance company, George's bike is a total loss. Hey! That's a great excuse to get a new 2009 model...perhaps a TriGlide, Harley's new three wheeler?

We met at a local Starbucks then followed the young men South on highway 99 towards Los Angeles for a few miles. We had a good turn-out of about 45-50 bikes. It was obvious just how much Bakersfield supports our troops. The young men looked a bit apprehensive but I'm sure they appreciated the support.
Take it easy, George, See you when you get back. Dang it!
First off; I don't think the word cabin truely describes where we stayed. It is definetly a mountain home. Situated among the towering pines, the 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3500 square foot "cabin" provides a nice retreat from Bakersfield. The cabin is beautifully decorated and comfortable with all the amenties anyone could ask.
Leaving Bakersfield Saturday morning, Reggie and I rode our bikes and our wives drove the car. Sunday the four of us went for a bike ride in the cool, clean mountain air. We went to Camp Nelson for lunch then rode around the area for a couple hours. The area was not at all crowded, especially for a holiday weekend.
On our way home we stopped at the Trail of 100 Giants in the Sequoia National Forest. The giant Sequoia's are absolutely spectacular in size. It's been several years since we visited there.
We had a nice time visiting with our friends and very much enjoyed the departure from our usual desert destinations!
Thanks for the weekend, guys!
We decide to drive this trip so we would have the convenience of our own vehicle. After calculating the cost of flying vs. driving, it was just about a wash.
We had one problem on this trip. On the way home my fuel pump went out in Alturas, Ca. We were towed to a Dodge dealer in Susanville about 100 miles away.(thankfully we have AAA!) After spending the day in Susanville the service dept. had us back on the road again. The repair was covered under warranty so that was good news.
On a bright note; I got great mileage. I average right about 20mpg...24 mpg at 55 mph!! Pretty darn good for a truck that weighs 8100 pounds!
Here's some pics
We had a nice ride and enjoyed some stories of his career. That evening we met for dinner to further the celebration.
Congrats, Doc! You deserve it, buddy!
We spent Memorial weekend at California City off-roading. Like I stated in previous entries, it's close and cheap!
Two weeks ago I would have bet this trip would have been called off due to extreme heat but a drastic change in weather made the desert an attractive outing. We had an assortment of weather actually. It rained going through Tehachapi but cleared up once we got out of the mountains. We had some wind and sunshine...overall, not too bad.
We set up camp at a different spot this time. We found a suitable cul-de-sac. It was clean and flat...easy to set up the toyhaulers. I hate an unlevel trailer for a couple reasons. First, it just doesn't feel right. Secondly, propane refrigerators are supposed to be level for proper operation. Last but certainly not least, while cooking eggs they run to the edge of the pan!
We took our ATV's to Randsburg and had lunch. Randsburg is called a living ghost town. It looks like nobody should live there but they do! On our way to Randsburg wee saw some people dry panning for gold. A quick stop and a chat with one prospector netted information about their club. They are the Orange County 49ers. Check out their website!
Here's some pics.
Here's a few pics.
Here's a link to pics The first picture is of our friend Kyle. He was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. We visited him at UCLA Med. Ctr. where he was getting a load of chemotherapy. Kyle is home now and is doing better. We wish him a speedy recovery!
Of course we had all the hook-ups...cable tv, etc.. We had a great time visiting with our friends!
Here's a couple shots of Allen taking the big riding test. I took a few other pics while waiting for the test results.
Two fine looking machines!
Allen on the right getting ready for the big test!
Executing a left turn. (Whoo Hoo!)
A group of about 12 bikes or so rode to the VFW hall where there was a send-off party for SSGT. Stott. He had been home on leave at his home in Tehachapi with his wife and young son. The VFW provided a nice potluck meal for everyone. We stayed about an hour and a half and then gave SSGT Stott our well-wishes before heading home to Bakersfield.
It's hard enough to do one tour in a combat zone let alone more. We can only hope he returns to his beautiful family soon. I'm glad I got bored with the race.
Take a look at BHD's newest employee, John "Doc" Mason. Doc is working part-time until he retires from his current job in June. Good luck, Doc!

The weather was pretty good considering the gale force winds in the evening! The daytime wasn't too bad and it sure didn't keep us from enjoying ourselves.
We went with a party of 4 other RV's to celebrate Mary's birthday. Friday evening we gathered in our Rv garage/rec./multi-purpose room for Mary's birthday dinner. We had some killer pork ribs and homemade ice cream cake.
Since I have Monday's off, I stayed an extra day but everyone else had to go home on Sunday. Daisy and I hung out and enjoyed the sunny desert on Monday.
Our weekend was not without incident. We arrived on Friday only to discover our Polaris Ranger had a flat tire. Since we were the first one there and everyone else was still in Bakersfield, I made a phone call and arranged a friend to buy me a new tire and bring it out. A quick trip into Cal City and the new tire was installed. However, Sunday afternoon while on a hunt for firewood, I got another flat. The first flat tire was not as severe as the second. It was still able to hold air so I replaced the second flat with it. Anyway, it kept me moving. I eventually found enough firewood for Sunday night.
Good people + good food=Good times!
Saturday a.m. I went to the Harley shop as usual and hung out for a while...had a coffee and a doughnut. Then on Sunday the local H.O.G. chapter had some bike games in the dealership parking lot. There was a slow race and an obstacle course. I came in second place in the slow race. The prize was a $50.00 gift certificate. And I took first place in the obstacle course with the fastest time of 38 seconds! The prize was a $75.00 gift certificate! Not bad for having fun...$125.00!! I put the money on my account to pay for future parts or labor at the shop...BAM!
Unfortunately I forgot my camera. Hopefully I'll be able to find some pictures of the days activities somewhere and get them posted here.
We had a great time with the grandkids. They're at the age where they're getting fun to be around. I really enjoyed their antics!...okay, fighting!
We went to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry(OMSI)in Portland Friday afternoon. Portland is just across the Columbia River from Vancouver. There's lots of neat things and interactive stuff for the kids...museums are always great!
We also went to the Ikea warehouse. It was my first time. There's so much there it's impossible to see ia all in one visit. I'm not all that hot on shopping for furniture and home furnishings, but I have to admit, some of their stuff is really neat! You have to check it out sometime.
Vancouver, Washington is pretty much like most cities with all the conveniences. The neighborhood where my daughter's home is located is close to everything but feels like it's a bit out of town.
Me and Grandson, Asa, went to Columbia Harley-Davidson in Vancouver. We checked out the store and some bikes.

I forgot to mention; we did fly this time. Flying vs. driving was pretty much a no-brainer. It was just about the same cost but a heck of a lot quicker! We flew from Bakersfield to San Francisco, switched planes then flew in to Portland.
We enjoyed spending time visiting with the kids and just hanging out. We all had a great time!
I bought a new camera while in Vancouver. It's a Kodak Z712...7.1MP and 12X Zoom. The zoom function is great! (Some of these pics are just me experimenting with the different settings...quite boring.) Here's some pics.
"Charlie Wilson's War" is a great movie and history refresher. I highly recommend it.
Technology is amazing! The amount of information contained in one of these units is just mind boggling! Now I have to spend some time getting familiar with it.
